Electromagnetic Interactions in the Quantum Hall Ferromagnet

چکیده

The ν = 1 quantum Hall ground state in samples like GaAs is well known to be ferromagnetic. The global SU(2) spin symmetry of the microscopic action is broken down to a U(1) symmetry by the ground state. The Goldstone bosons corresponding to this spontaneous breaking of symmetry are the ferromagnetic magnons which are neutral spin waves. In addition, there are topologically nontrivial, electrically charged spin excitations known as spin skyrmions, which in these samples are the favoured charge carriers. In this letter, we look into the electromagnetic coupling of these spin excitations. The discrete symmetries P and T are also broken by the ground state and we find that to the leading order, the electromagnetic interaction of the spin waves occurs through a nonminimal coupling given by a mixed Chern-Simons like term containing both the electromagnetic potentials and the two Euler angles that specify the coset SU(2)/U(1) and thereby, the Goldstone bosons. Ising quantum Hall ferromagnet in magnetically doped quantum wells.

We report on the observation of the Ising quantum Hall ferromagnet with Curie temperature T(C) as high as 2 K in a modulation-doped (Cd,Mn)Te heterostructure. In this system field-induced crossing of Landau levels occurs due to the giant spin-splitting effect. Magnetoresistance data, collected over a wide range of temperatures, magnetic fields, tilt angles, and electron densities, are discussed...

Quantum Hall to insulator transition in the bilayer quantum Hall ferromagnet.

We describe a phase transition of the bilayer quantum Hall ferromagnet at nu=1. In the presence of static disorder (modeled by a periodic potential), bosonic S=1/2 spinons undergo a superfluid-insulator transition while preserving ferromagnetism. The Mott insulating phase has an emergent U(1) photon, and the transition is between Higgs and Coulomb phases of this photon. Consequences for charge ...

Vortex Description of Quantum Hall Ferromagnets

We study particle states of quantum Hall ferromagnet from the viewpoint of the incompressible fluid description. It is shown that phase space of Chern-Simons matrix theory which is an effective theory for the incompressible fluid is equivalent to moduli space of vortex theory. According to this correspondence, elementary excitations in vortex theory are identified as particle states in quantum ...

بررسی اثر صحیح کوانتومی هال در سیستمهای دارای ناخالصی به روش تبدیل پیمانه‌ای در حضور نقطه‌های کوانتومی

In this paper we study the integer quantum Hall effect (IQHE) on the systems with different types of impurities in delta and gaussian forms. The Landau energy levels in the presence of impurity split in two different levels, the extended and localized levels, emerging then the Hall step. Finally, we add a specified form of a quantum dot potential to a system with impurity, and observed that incr...

Skyrmion Liquid Phase of the Quantum Ferromagnet in Two Dimensions

The two-dimensional quantum ferromagnet filled with a liquid of skyrmions is studied theoretically in the context of the quantum Hall effect near electronic filling factor ν = 1. A cross-over between the classical ferromagnetic phase at ν = 1 and a classical paramagnetic phase at ν 6= 1 is obtained, which is consistent with recent Knight-shift measurements. A new collective mode associated with...
